To round out our programs children will enjoy special events throughout the week and school year, they include our WAVE Rally, music class for all children, presentations from special guests, field trips, parades, drama, nature walks, introductions to sign language and Spanish. Computer class (Mouse Kids), dance and karate are available at an additional cost.
We have two unique options for preschoolers ages 3-6: We provide a quality learning environment in both our Wave Preschool programs and our Montessori preschool.
“What's the difference?”
Dr. Maria Montessori spent many decades working with the young child and based on her observations of their needs, identified the following development areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Art, Science, Culture and Geography.
At WAVE CLC the Montessori Teachers provide a structured environment that encourages children of mixed ages to explore and experience the joy of learning between the hours of 8:30am - 1pm or 8:30am - 5pm Monday through Friday. During this time the children select their activities from Montessori based materials and work without interruption. Children are given the appropriate language to accompany all their excercises thus expanding their vocabulary and knowledge of the materials throughout the classroom.
Wave Preschool Classes are more age specific, they use the Creative Curriculum, theme based for lesson planning, group orientated activities, learning centers include: home living, science, library corner, table toys (manipulatives), art, circle times, listening/worship/music center. We supplement creative curriculum with Zoo Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears.
The Creative Curriculum ® for Preschool translates new research and theory from the field of early childhood education into a practical, easy-to-understand approach to working with children and their families. It is a comprehensive curriculum that includes a framework for decision making along with a focus on interest areas.
